Troop 205 goes to

West Hills County Park in Huntington for Holiday Baking

Picturesque, well-groomed nature trails, including the historic Walt Whitman Trail to Jayne's Hill (Long Island's highest peak, at an elevation of 400 feet), wind through this highly popular, mixed-deciduous forested park. West Hills flora and fauna include wild Mountain Laurel, Moccasin Flower, several fern species, salamanders, turtles, chipmunk, squirrel and red fox. Horses (both privately owned and leased from the on-site public Sweet Hills Stables) enjoy some of the finest and most picturesque bridle paths on Long Island at West Hills County Park. Camping at West Hills is offered to organized youth groups only. Campsites, lean-tos, and primitive shelters are available year-round. Cracker barrel on Friday night followed by orienteering Saturday morning.  Saturday afternoon will include pioneering by creating ovens in camp, which will be used to bake Saturday evening's holiday treats. Saturday night will be a holiday celebration with treats and caroling.

Leaving:                   Friday, December 3 2016 – Meet at the Great River Fire House at 6pm. We’re heading out right at 6:15pm in Class “A” Scout Uniform.

Returning:               Around 9:30 Sunday, December 5, 2021.

Location:                 West Hills County Park, Huntington – Long Island. Site F5 with “F” Shelter for dining with wood  burning stove.

Should I attend?    You bet!  We would like to have all our Troop 205 scouts attend as a great time will be had by all!

 Cost:                         $27. for Campsite, use of the “F” Shelter, Cracker Barrel and Saturday dessert, and baking supplies.  Venmo, Zelle, or check payable to “Troop 205” due by Tuesday, November 23, 2021, plus an additional $20 cash for all attending for food for the weekend due at the November 30th Troop Meeting.

 Dress:                      Class “A” Uniform on Friday, warm clothes on Saturday and Class “B” or “C” uniform on Sunday.  Clothes on Saturday should be warm and be able to get dirty.

 Packing:                Sack dinner for Friday evening, uniforms as stated above, warm sleeping bag, change of shoes, hat and gloves sweatshirt and cold weather jacket, rain poncho, flashlight, folding camp/sport chair, mess kit, BSA Handbook, Please follow the equipment for Cold weather camping as itemized on our site.

Cell Phones:           Troop policy – no Scouts bring Cell Phones.  Leaders will have cell phones. 

Sign me up!:            Sign-up deadline is Tuesday, November 23, 2021 with signed permission slip and $27. plus $20. In cash for food for Patrol Food due November 30th).  No cancellations or refunds after payments made.  Please submit payment via Venmo, Zelle, cash or check, payable to “Troop 205” for $27. along with signed permission slip and provide to Assistant Scoutmaster Chris Dopfel.
