Procedure for Application of Eagle Award

When a Scout has completed all of the requirements for the Eagle Scout Award, the Eagle Scout Rank Application should be completed in duplicate along with two (2) copies of the completed Eagle Service Project Work Book and sent to the Council Service Center.

These two complete sets should contain the following:

1

Internet Advancement Report (from Troop Advancement Chairman): Mrs. Riley VERY IMPORTANT!

2

Completed Eagle Service Project Work Book with all signatures.

(One submitted must have the original signature pages, both approval and completion and this must be submitted in the same set as the original Eagle Scout Rank Application Form).

Ř      DO NOT submit pictures with your application – bring them to the Eagle Board of Review.

Ř      DO NOT use 3-ring binders when submitting your Eagle Paperwork to the Council Service Center.  Binders are too bulky and to costly to send in the mail.  Instead, you may use some type of folder or plastic covering.

Note: You need to submit 2 copies, but you  should also have a third copy to keep for yourself to make copies for the Board of Review.  You should plan to bring 5 copies to the Board of Review along with your "Master" Book along with photos

The council will forward one copy of the Eagle Scout Rank Application and Eagle Service Project Workbook to the district advancement chairman.  The other copy will remain at the Council Service Center.

Items to double Check & Helpful Suggestions:

1

Eagle Scout Application should be typed or neatly printed.

2

Indicate day, month, and year where required on application, including record of merit badges earned (Requirement #5.)

3

Merit badge dates should be the date the badge was earned, NOT the date it was presented.

4

Complete reverse side of Eagle Scout Rank Advancement Application.  Use a separate, double spaced, typed page for statements on back of the Eagle Scout Rank Application.  Be sure to title each page (i.e. Life Purpose, Description of Honors, etc.)

5

The unit leader and unit committee must certify and sign the application that it meets with their approval.  (It goes without saying, but the signatures must not be by the scout's parent or guardian)

6

Complete information required on “references” which the Eagle candidate, scoutmaster, or committee will obtain.  References are to be mailed directly to the troop committee chairperson.

7

Internet Advancement Report (from Troop Advancement Chairman): Mrs. Riley

VERY IMPORTANT!

8

Be certain that the Eagle Scout Services Project Workbook is complete with all required information and signatures.

9

The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook must have plenty of details.  Be sure all points are answered.  Keep in mind that the review board has not seen the project and it should be described completely.  Pictures can be helpful (Bring to Board of Review).

10

Upon receipt of the candidate’s application, the Council Service Center will check that the application is complete.  The original Eagle Scout Rank Application, Eagle Scout Project Workbook and all associated attachments will be forwarded to the district advancement chairman.  A member of the district advancement committee will then contact the unit to discuss a mutually convenient date and time for the Eagle Board of Review.

In addition to the Eagle Scout Application and Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook, the following should be available at the Board of Review.

Ř      Required letters of recommendation

Ř       A blank Advancement Form (#34403)

Ř       Five Letters of recommendation.

When you ask for letters of reference they should be sent directly to the Committee Chairman so they can be opened at the Board of Review.

Advise the Committee Chairman:

1: from whom to expect the letters.

2: Type of letter (parent, school, religion etc.)

DOUBLE CHECK TO

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CURRENT APPLICATION FORM!

11

Upon receipt of the candidate’s application, the Council Service Center will check that the application is complete.  The original Eagle Scout Rank Application, Eagle Scout Project Workbook (with attachments if applicable), and copy of advancement forms and blue cards will be forwarded to the district advancement chairman.

Ř      A blank Advancement From (#34403)

Immediately after the Board of Review and after the application has been appropriately signed, the application and a properly completed Advancement Report (#34403) are returned to the Council Service Center.

When the application arrives at the Council Service Center, the Scout executive signs it to certify that the proper procedure has been followed and the board of review has recommended the candidate for the Eagle Scout Rank.  The Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook is retained by the Council.  Only the Eagle Scout Rank Application is forwarded to the National Eagle Scout Service.

The Eagle Scout Service screens the application to ascertain information such as proper signatures, position of responsibility, and tenure between ranks, merit badges, and age of the candidate. Any item not meeting standards will cause the application to be returned for more information.  If the application is in order, the Scout is then certified as an Eagle Scout by the Eagle Scout Service on behalf of the National Council.  Notice of approval is given by sending the Eagle Scout certificate to the local council.  The Date on the certificate will be the date of the Board of Review.

The Eagle Scout Rank Application will be sent to the National headquarters of the Boy Scouts of America.  It should be written to the very bests of the Scouts ability.  A NEAT & COMPLETE APPLICATION IS IMPORTANT!

The Eagle Award must not be sold or given to any unit until after the certificate is received by the Council Service Center.  The Eagle Scout Court of Honor should not be scheduled until the local council receives the Eagle Scout rank credentials.

Note:  The National Council maintains the right to reject the Eagle Application

However, if the above procedure is followed carefully, it is highly doubtful such action would be taken.
